The story behind BudgetAtlas, and why I believe budgeting is the key to financial freedom.
Hi, I'm Andy Black, and I created BudgetAtlas.
I've been building websites and software since around 2005. As an entrepreneur, I've developed my own software ideas and sold them around the world, alongside running various online marketing ventures. I'm based in the UK, but I've spent a good chunk of the last few years living in Bali and exploring different corners of Europe. I love travelling, warm climates, and the idea that one day I'll pick a sunny spot abroad and make it permanent.
But this isn't just about where I've been or what I do for work. This is about something I've learned that genuinely changed the way I live, and I want to share it with you.
A few years back, I started listening to the Ramsey Show on my AirPods while out walking. At first, it was just background noise, something to fill the time. But the more I listened, the more it started to click. I began digesting other financial podcasts, reading articles, watching videos, anything I could find about money, budgeting, and building wealth.
That's when I realised something powerful: budgeting isn't about restriction. It's about freedom.
Before, I thought budgeting meant you couldn't spend money. I thought it was boring, limiting, and something only super strict people did. But I was completely wrong. A budget gives you permission to spend. It tells you exactly what you can afford, where your money is going, and what you need to adjust if something unexpected comes up. It's intentional. It's methodical. And once you get it right, it's incredibly freeing.
Once I started budgeting properly, I became very intentional with my spending. I wanted a tool that was simple, private, and didn't require me to sign up, hand over my email, or commit to some subscription. I wanted something I could use every single month, update on the fly, and export to a PDF whenever I needed it. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I built it myself.
That's how BudgetAtlas was born. It's a truly private, simple, fully functional budgeting app that you can use month after month with zero email sign up and zero commitment. Your data stays on your device, you're in complete control, and you can start planning your budget in seconds.
I created BudgetAtlas to genuinely help people and guide them on their financial journey. I use it myself every month for my own budget planning, and I'm confident it can help you too.
If you're reading this, you're probably thinking about getting better with money. Maybe you're tired of feeling like your spending is out of control. Maybe you want to save for something meaningful. Or maybe you just want to understand where your money actually goes each month.
Whatever brought you here, I want you to know this: budgeting isn't complicated, and it doesn't have to be stressful. BudgetAtlas was designed to make it as easy as possible for you to plan ahead, see the full picture, and make confident financial decisions.
It's instant. It's free. And it can help you stay on top of your finances and live a freer, richer life.
